I am originally from Upstate New York, near Poughkeepsie. I moved to North Carolina when I was in 3rd grade, and grew up in Raleigh. I have a younger brother and 3 older step-sisters. My family was kind of like the Brady Brunch! I am the only sibling to move out of Raleigh- everyone else is still living there. I lived in Boone, NC, moved back to Raleigh to do my counseling internship, and then after graduating I moved back up to New York for about 6 months. While living in New York the 2nd time around, I worked for a wonderful program called Upward Bound. This is a program that helps students from low-income families and students from families in which neither parent holds a college degree, prepare for and plan for college. Working there was an incredible experience!
I attended Appalachian State University for both my undergrad and graduate degree. Going into college I knew that I wanted to work with children in some form of counseling/psychological capacity, but was unsure what route exactly I wanted to take. My junior year, I took a educational psychology class and really connected with that teacher. She pointed me in the direction of Professional School Counseling- I applied to the master's program, was accepted and the rest is history! I now hold a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology, and a Masters Degree in Professional School Counseling with a Certificate in Addictions.
I moved to Charlotte in 2010 to accept the Counselor's position here at McAlpine. When I was officially hired, I did not live here yet and needed to scramble to find a place to live! It was a crazy week moving all of my things from New York to here, but so worth it. After living in Charlotte for 2 weeks I met my now husband, Miguel. It has been a magical time and I consider myself so blessed to work here! Miguel and I were married on July 7th, 2012 and it was the best wedding ever (but I'm biased!). We now live just over the border in South Carolina with our pup, Mollie. She is the friendliest, most loving pit-mix you will ever meet!
Some things to know about me are- my favorite color is green, and if you ever stop by my office, I think it will be very obvious to see! My office has a lot of green in it :) I can be really silly, and fit in with the students! I am almost always wearing a smile, and will always make time for my students. I also think that I have the best job not just in the school, but period. Working with the students, and getting to watch them grow and mature is such a cool thing. I really just can't picture myself doing anything else! That said, I am pretty much an open book! If there is anything else you want to know just ask!
